Spring 2007 Wrap-up
Yesterday was the last day of the Spring 2007 semester. I believe I spent it well.
In the morning, I made a breakfast of pancakes and coffee for myself and my friend Brandon who had elected to sleep over the night before. After pancakes, I went to take my final exam (Consumer Behavior). I needed to get 30 points out of 100 in order to pass that class, so I’m really quite unconcerned with my grade in there. The grades in that course are centered completely around the exam scores. We did have homework assignments, and they were graded - in fact, they show up on our grade sheets, but have a weight of 0%. While the assignments were short, and helped to get the point of some concepts across, a small part of me is still thinking “why did I do my homework for that class?”. Hopefully it factors into a participation score.
Post-exam, I rode my bicycle to Jeff, Tyler, and Guy’s house to eat a gyro and visit with them before they finish moving out. Jeff was home, with Alex Merced, who had needed a place to stay for a few days before flying out to the Phillipines. Tyler was moving things to his new place with Erin, and with her help. Guy wasn’t around quite yet, but he did manage to drop by to help clean later in the day (I didn’t get to see him). While I was there, I ended up investigating the attic for a short while (but not actually going all the way into it because it was dark, dirty, and there was stuff all over the floor for me to fall on. I did find a Lincoln Log on the attic floor. After eating, I decided to begin the process that should take place after moving out of any location - a full-scale cleaning mission. It seemed to motivate Alex and Jeff into action too. I ended up biking back to work around 4:00 PM, in order to close computer labs at 5:00 PM.
Work at RCC was a little bit of a headache, due to communication issues among others. 5 staff members who were scheduled to work didn’t show up for their final shift (out of the ordinary), however this morning I found out that at least one of their absences had been excused. I did drop by my Collage instructor’s mailbox to pick up my final grade (A) and feedback from my last project. I really enjoyed this class, and conversing with Marce. If anything, aside from just enjoying conversation with her, she was a really great person to talk out problems/concerns/concepts going on within art projects.
In the evening, after work, Allyson and I picked up Nick Oberlin so that I could cut his hair. His girlfriend Jenny ended up coming over right away, as well as his friend Josh. Overall, I had an enjoyable evening. I spent a little bit of time with Jeff - perhaps not as much as I should have. He slept on my sofa last night (took his bed home yesterday), and graduating and doing family things today. He was already gone when I woke up, and it will probably be quite a long while before I get to see him again.
At the end of the evening, before bed, I hopped online and chatted with Drew and Sarah for a while. Drew was telling me about how strange it is to be leaving BGSU and RCC after having been there for so long (transferring to Owens for financial reasons) - and also realizing that most of his friends are people he works with. I think things will work out.
Sarah gave me the update, which isn’t so different from normal. She misses me. Hans, her fiancee, and her still do not share the same music tastes, and there are times when she wishes she had a remote control to zap him away, and pop me in to visit with for a while and listen to music. She did send me a link to a movie that looks really delightful - it’s called Across the Universe. The film is staged as a (new-style) musical set in the 1960s, and is using Beatles songs as the backbone for the work. The trailer makes it look delightful. Read a review on /film (with trailers), or take a sneak peek on IMDB or Wikipedia… there doesn’t seem to be an official website at this time. Sarah wanted me to promise to see it with her (I wish I could), but I’m not sure what I will be doing or where I will be so far in the future. The set release date is September 28, 2007.
On a related note, Terry Goodkind’s (tentative) last Sword of Truth book, Confessor, is set to be released in November.
The fall should bring good things. Maybe it will bring me a computer that left-clicks properly. I’ve been having an awful time with my laptop’s quirks while writing this post.
